Transformers: The Ride – 3D

Transformers: The Ride – 3D (originally just Transformers: The Ride) is a theme park attraction which opened December 3, 2011 first at Universal Studios Singapore at Sentosa, Singapore, and then May 25, 2012 at Universal Studios Hollywood in California, with a third one at Universal Studios Orlando opening on June 20, 2013. Based on the live-action film series, the ride features High Definition 3D film footage and visual effects by Industrial Light & Magic.

Synopsis[]

At a NEST outpost in Universal Studios, you are recruited to join the battle against the Decepticons. As you make your way through the facility, you are told of the Autobots, their story and conflict with the Decepticons, and ultimately their alliance with the humans and the mission of NEST. Before you can complete your training, however, Decepticons attack—though suspicions that the attack is a diversion are raised by Theodore Stallworth. The Decepticons are after the remaining AllSpark shard being kept in the NEST facility, and stealth/transport specialist Evac is put on high alert in case the shard needs to be removed from the facility as a last resort. Wheelie, hacking his way into the frequency being broadcast to NEST personnel, reports that he has intercepted a transmission from Megatron. Megatron's transmission is short and to the point: surrender the remaining shard of the AllSpark, or face his wrath. In addition, Ravage is detected inside the facility, and it is apparent now that Stallworth was correct: the earlier attack was a diversion as the Decepticons make their way inside. Unable to spare any soldiers due to heavy Decepticon resistance, you, the recruits, are assigned to aid Evac in transporting the AllSpark and removing it from the NEST facility. You board Evac and roll out into battle.

You and Evac arrive just in time to catch Ravage attempting to steal the AllSpark shard. Ravage manages to swipe it before Evac has the chance to stop him, though he doesn't get away. Bumblebee arrives on the scene, though being chased by Sideways. Bumblebee manages to tear the shard from Ravage and hold Sideways off as Evac retreats with the shard. He rendezvouses with Optimus Prime, who compliments Evac and his riders on their good work, and provides cover for his escape, holding the charging Megatron at bay. Megatron orders his Decepticons to destroy Evac and his passengers, and Grindor moves in for the kill—however, his attack is caught short when he is lured into a subway tunnel and hit by a train.

Megatron reappears, but is again held off by Optimus Prime. Megatron fires a missile at Evac while grappling with Optimus, but he maneuvers to avoid the oncoming shell and escapes through a hole blown in the wall. Devastator assembles and pulls Evac into the open with his vortex, but cover is provided by Ironhide and Ratchet. As Evac drives away, Sideswipe provides back up and the pair race through city streets until Bonecrusher attacks. Sideswipe manages to hold off Bonecrusher until Evac blasts the Decepticon in the chest and finally the head, putting him down for good.

Devastator reappears and sucks Evac into his Vortex Grinder, though he and his passengers are saved at the last minute due to the activation of Evac's battle shields. Starscream, however, is waiting on the other side and manages to catch Evac with his grappling hook, flinging him and his passengers through the air and into buildings until finally delivering him to Megatron, who is still locked in battle with Optimus. Optimus is apparently losing the battle, though the Prime orders Evac to protect the AllSpark. Starscream reappears during Evac's escape, but is quickly chased away by NEST air support.

Evac comments that he and his riders are now on their own, and wonders what to do. Megatron jumps down in front and suggests begging for mercy as he reaches for the riders, though Optimus again appears to fight back against the Decepticon tyrant. Fed up with running, Evac charges into Optimus and Megatron's battle and hits Megatron from behind. As Optimus holds Megatron back, Evac jabs the shard into Megatron's chest, severely weakening him. Megatron stumbles backwards over the edge of the roof, though he grabs Evac and pulls him down with him in one final act of aggression. Megatron howls in defeat as they both plummet to the ground, but Bumblebee appears and catches Evac at the last moment. With Megatron defeated, Optimus Prime congratulates Evac and the recruits on a mission accomplished, noting that their bravery saved the planet. As Evac drives through the tunnels back to base, he passes underneath Megatron's lifeless body smashed through the pavement and comments that the riders can ride with him anytime.

Trivia[]

The rides at both Hollywood and Orlando were first opened with live, scripted performances at their respective grand opening ceremonies.
Neither Ironhide or Bumblebee have GM/Chevrolet logos in the new animation for the ride and entrance-area briefing.
In the ride's queue area, when the Autobots are speaking via screens, Bumblebee has his voice back (speaking more here than in four movies) before it ultimately gives out again. He and Ratchet are clearly just as frustrated as the fans over it.
All of the footage of Grindor shown by Ironhide during his briefing are actually clips of Blackout from the first movie.
At the end of the ride, when Optimus congratulates you and Evac, you can see a broken stone pillar that has "G1" written on it, most likely a reference to the Generation 1 cartoon.
- In the Hollywood and Orlando versions of the ride, a yellow Volkswagon Beetle can be seen at the very end, a nod to G1 Bumblebee, whose alternate mode was the Beetle. Bumblebee would take this alt. mode in the film franchise a few years later in his own film.
