Overload was a Decepticon and Constructicon who alongside his fellow Constructicons, could combine into the mighty Combiner Devastator. Overload made up the lower waist of Devastator. On his own, Overload transformed into a red modified Komatsu HD465-7 Articulated Dump Truck.

"Glorious!"

-Overload's catchphrase, although he did not say it in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Design[]

From his concept art appearances alone, Overload could easily be considered a force to be reckoned with. Although his exact size when next to his Constructicon team is not known, from his role in combined form and his alternate mode, Overload was probably massive.

In his Robot Mode, Overload was a red, large and relatively bulky Decepticon, with huge, broad shoulders that contained his iconic 4 arms. The outer, larger set of which contained silver, arthropod pincher-like claws, and the inner, smaller set with double-hooked metallic hands. Overload's head had no discernable mouthpiece, but he had 3 yellow eyes/optics, organized in a "V" formation, with the middle one being the largest. His legs were robust and supposedly heavy, and he had a black hook on his back, protruding upward.

As his alternate mode, Overload turned into a modified red Komastu HD465-7 Articulated Dump Truck, with a white cabin and white stripes running horizontally all the way along it's body.

Genius Level Intellect & Reflexes: Overload can easily catch enemy missiles everywhere, he can also throw explosives like bombs, missiles, dynamites and grenades.

Detector: Overload might as well be the constructicon ace.

Weapons[]

Claws: These claws are really helpful it can catch missiles on it's arms and can slice missiles too. Since these claws are powerful, it can destroy things.

History[]

Overload joins the other Constructicons in Egypt, where they meet in a clear patch of land, facing Seymour Simmons, Skids and Mudflap. Overload and the others then combine into Devastator.

After failing to kill Simmons and The Twins, Devastator is ordered to destroy the Pyramind to free the Star Harvester. Devastator ascends the Pyramid and knocks the top clean off, unearthing the Harvester for The Fallen. However, the U.S.S Kidd then fires its experimental Railgun, which blasts Devastator off the pyramid, killing his components Mixmaster, Long Haul Scrapmetal, Skipjack Scrapper Scavenger, Hightower and Overload.

Devastator dies

"Oh mon".

Trivia[]

  • Overload's vehicle mode is often confused on various pieces of concept art as a Komatsu HD465 or a Caterpillar 773, but the actual machine used in the movie scenes appears to be a Komastu HD465-7.
  • In Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Overload, Hightower, and Scavenger were the only Constructicons that didn't transform into their respective Robot Modes for the duration of their screen time. Instead, their Robot Modes can be see on concept arts and in the various toy releases over the years, with Scavenger's unused CGI model being recolored into a brand new character, Demolishor.
  • Alternate Ben Procter artworks for the film depict two alternate robot modes for Overload, the first being his more iconic and monstruous crab-like form, with four insectoid legs and a bigger lower torso, and a second one that is very similar to the design officialized by the toys, except the hook on it's back is turned into a huge tail with a claw on it's tip, that might have been used to grab and maneuver—and possibly rip apart—objects and enemies.
  • The previously mentioned 4-legged form—although with the added claw-tail of another concept art—has been gorgeously animated by YouTube user Osro, in his short animated video.
  • Said form was widely believed to be Overload's canonical Robot Mode, but the Studio Series Toy line seems to suggest that Hasbro and Takara Tomy, the owners of the rights to the Transformers franchise, have picked the 2-legged, hook design as his official mode.
  • It's unknown how the metal balls located in Devastator's waist came to be, as they are nowhere to be found on all of the Constructicons that form the combiner.
